Fake. This is not any kind of stone, let alone an opal. Upon receiving, I realized from the texture & density of the “stone” that I had in fact been sent something that I suspect is made from resin. My best guess is this is comprised of ground up opal bits mixed with resin in an attempt to pass it off as an opal. Seller claims it is like that because it was “smoke heat treated” but that would not change the density of an opal, only the color. Even if that were true, this stone was advertised as “natural,” which is extremely misleading at best. I am told I must pay to ship it back if I want a refund, which means I’m stuck with it as it’s not worth the time & cost. For the price, dont expect museum quality gems, but I do expect something resembling a real stone. Unfortunate as I’ve ordered from this shop before & never had issues
